Jolabokaflod, or the Yule Book Flood, originated during World War II when foreign imports were restricted, but paper was cheap. Iceland could not support a year-round publishing industry, so book publishers flooded the market with new titles in the final weeks of the year and thus the tradition of exchanging books as gifts in December was born.
Tell us about a favorite book, article or TedTalk – anything you experienced this year that inspired or entertained you this year. This is an informal, drop-in event where PEC members and guests can share, and maybe even get some ideas for books to read or to give as a holiday gift to family, friends and colleagues alike.
In keeping with another tradition of Jolabokaflod, we encourage you to have a hot cocoa or another warm beverage while we meet!
